Pairs Match 4th November 2024
Grand Western Canal
Sunday's Pairs Open, comprising 20 teams, was a match of two halves with the Basin section throwing up some good weights of bream whilst the Tidcombe stretch was found to be wanting in terms of quality fish. Despite good conditions, bites were generally hard to come by for many with the Tidcombe section proving particularly hard, indeed, only a few anglers managed a kilo or more there.
However, Dan Baldwin and his partner, Russ Hilton, lead the way by gaining maximum scores in each section and thus winning the match comfortably. Dan was drawn at the top of the slope in the Basin and caught 11 bream for a great weight of 17.350kg. Dan's main success was pole fishing well across at 14.5m using worm/caster hook bait over chopped worm and caster. Russ was on peg 24 near the wires at Tidcombe and managed 2.700kg comprising small roach, perch and skimmers plus a bonus pike. Main bait was similar in worm and caster. Big congrats guys !
Runners-up on the day was Neil Raybould and Baz Barrell. Neil had 13.850kg from peg 6 in the Basin which included 9 bream all caught on pole fished maggot over ground bait whilst Baz, on peg 28 at Tidcombe, had 1.100kg of small skimmers and roach all caught mainly on pinkie over ground bait well across at the far bank. Great result guys !
Third spot went to Craig Morris and Chris Danby. Craig had 1.600kg from peg 3 in the Basin which included some good skimmers whilst Chris had a kilo of small roach, perch and skimmers from peg 25 at Tidcombe. Excellent result chaps on what was a really hard day.
The next match is the club's Xmas Open on 24th November; tickets now available from Culm Valley Tackle.
